Paschal Triduum

The Triduum, or the Great Three Days, is the celebration of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Resurrection. It runs from sunset on Thursday through sunset on Easter Sunday (thus three days).  The first three liturgies, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil are actually one extended liturgy.

Maundy Thursday, April 1, 2010

7:30pm  -- Eucharist of the Lord’s Supper

This Eucharist commemorates our Lord’s Last Supper and the institution of the Eucharist. It begins the liturgy of the Triduum and as such has no benediction.

Good Friday, April 2, 2010

7:30pm  -- Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion

This liturgy centers around the reading of the Passion of St. John as the darkness encircles us. The ancient bidding prayer is prayed and time is spent in prayer before the cross. In keeping with ancient church tradition the Eucharist is not celebrated on this day.

Easter Vigil (Saturday) Apirl 3, 2010, Celebrated at Trinity Lutheran Church

8:00pm  -- Great Vigil of Easter

This four part liturgy centers around the salvific work of God. The Paschal candle, the light of the resurrected Christ is blessed and lighted. By the light of the candle we are led into the darkened church and read the great Old Testament stories of salvation. The waters of baptism are blessed and baptisms and/or affirmation of baptisms are celebrated. Finally the first Eucharist of Easter is celebrated.
